Splash is a colorful arcade game, in which you control a tiny bouncy ball, which has to bounce over colored cubes, and make them explode with paint onto the canvas of the game field. Sounds easy enough? At first it might seem so, but as you get further on the canvas, it might become harder to keep the balance of bouncing and keeping your taps in sync.
The game features one touch controls, meaning that all you have to do is tap the screen to start the game, then tap whenever you want the ball to bounce down. To get as far as possible, you will want to tap whenever the ball is above a cube, as splashing on these cubes is the only way to move on. As you get further in the same ”run” or attempt, the game will try to put more challenges in front of you, such as cubes put more closely, or ones that are very far from eachother. Since the level is randomly generated each time you play, no game is exactly the same as another before it.
Other than trying to get the best score, Splash also includes a currency system in the form of tiny yellow gems, which can randomly appear on cubes during the gameplay. Collecting 100 of these gems will give you the option to go to the ingame shop and purchase a new color scheme to use on the level. There are 100 different color schemes to choose from, but there is no way to know what colors one includes, until you actually unlock it by spending your gems. Some schemes will contain bright and wildly different colors, while others will keep to a similar style, such as shades of grey or purple.
Other than being able to beat your own scores, you can also aim to reach the top of the global leaderboards, although it will take some work, as the top player has over a thousand points already. There are also achievements in the game for various feats, such as reaching a certain score, or even for failing a set number of times. Additionally there is a feature that lets you take a picture of the painted game area after each failure, and you can either share it or use it as a background on your device.
If you thought there won’t be in-app purchases in this simplistic title, then you were wrong! The game has ads that usually appear after every third or fourth failure, and some banner ads will be present in the menus. All of these can be permanently disabled by spending $1.99. There are no additional in-app purchases found in Splash, not even ones to allow the purchase of gems.
Cheats & Tips for Splash
Splash can be an easy to learn, but hard to master game. To help you reach success and beat even the most impressive highscores, you might want to take advantage of some cheats. Let me give you some ideas on what to do to become better, as well as give you some extra info related to the cheats!
One of the first cheats is a way to get your hands on some extra gems, and this is something that you will definitely find useful in the journey to unlock each and every color scheme. If you go to the ingame shop, sometimes there will be a little button with +20 on it. If you tap this, the game will show you a short ad, and you will get to claim 20 gems for free. This can be repeated multiple times until the button disappears. If it does, then you should play the game until it appears again on the endgame screen.
Another nice trick is to unlock two colorful level schemes for free. All you have to do is scroll down to the bottom of the shop, and find the little Facebook and Twitter logos. Tapping on these will take you to the developer’s social media pages, but you can just simply go back to the game without actually liking or following them, and the color schemes will be unlocked already!
Regarding the gameplay of Splash, the best tip to keep in mind is that even though you control when the ball bounces, it can act a little crazy at times. For example if you miss a cube, but it bounces onto the next one, then your run is already doomed. The ball will automatically follow the pattern of the missed cube, and it will turn at the wrong moment, causing failure. Always make sure you never miss a single cube, and instead try to time your taps when the ball is exactly above the middle of the cubes, so it has the most chance to bounce without risk.
